To David, With Love

While chafing my heart against the sands of time,

I’d forgotten how much you mean to me.

Then you spoke my name, and I remembered everything.

Frantically, I squeeze you, us, the past

into cramped little words–

caged in by a moment of longing.

Wading through the depth of my emotion,

Splashing inky blotches with murky lines

along a worn path– from cheeks to chin to chest–

filling my heart until it overflows into yours.

And my words, “The deepest feelings

always shows themselves in silence, my sweet”

disappear.
